Tell the DC Mayor to Make One City Possible

Via Miriam’s Kitchen:

DC Mayor Vincent Gray is currently finalizing his proposed city budget for fiscal year 2013. Now is the time for us to let him know that we want to make DC a comfortable place for all people to live.

We’re joining forces with the Fair Budget Coalition and their Make One City Possible campaign, and are calling and emailing Mayor Gray today to let him know that we need his help to ensure our guests have the resources they need to survive.

In particular, we’d like Mayor Gray to:

  • Direct $34 million in funding to DC’s core affordable and supportive housing programs.
  • Invest $2.25 million to provide intensive employment support and stable housing to enable homeless families on TANF to move towards self-sufficiency.
  • Invest $2.5 million to create housing and social services for homeless young people.
  • Encourage DC’s housing and human services agencies to work together to reduce pressure on the emergency shelter system by helping tenants avoid unnecessary evictions.

Our guests depend on many of these programs and it’s important that we let Mayor Gray know how critical these programs are to our guests’ survival.

We’ve heard from city government that these calls and emails really do make a difference, which is why we’re asking you to join us today.

Please join us by calling or emailing Mayor Gray today (here’s his contact information and some suggested text) and letting him know that you want to Make One City Possible too.

The End of the War in Afghanistan

I know that US military officials are surprised that Afghans are killing NATO soldiers but all Afghanis want is not to be occupied.

They have always and will always take up arms against invaders, even if we as a force were initially beneficial (the enemy of my enemy is my friend) we are now an insult and they are now done with us.

The entire nation has been fending off foreign foreign invasion, influence, occupation, and assault and has ejected the British, the Soviets, and with the burning of the Korans, we’ll neither have the hearts nor the minds in the game as a nation enough to continue with this emotionally, morally, physically, and energetically demanding Asian land war.

I would be surprised if the war in Afghanistan lasts much longer, especially as we as a nation ramp up to engage militarily with Latin America.

To say nothing of Iran, which I hope never happens.

From my lips to God’s ear.

We’ll see how all of this plays out.

A Walkthrough Video of My Very Own GaggleAMP Gaggle

From Walkthrough of the GaggleAMP Social Marketing Platform on YouTube:

In this video, I walk you through all the nooks and crannies of my favorite new social media sharing and amplification platform called GaggleAMP.

I share the GaggleAMP dashboard from my very own Marketing Conversation gaggle and also share the gaggles I am a member of, including SobelMedia’s, Shel Holtz‘s FIR, and the official GaggleAMP gaggle.

I do my best to share all the features from a Gaggle Manager and Administrator perspective — but I mainly just feature the ones that I use every day, to the chagrin of Glenn Gaudet who keeps on trying to get me to use all the features (oh well).

But even so, I spend a lot of time showing you around just about everywhere, so if you’re curious what GaggleAMP is about, please check it out.

And if you would like to join my Gaggle, please do: http://gaggleamp.com/4+Xsxoj

Take PR News' 2nd Annual Salary Survey

Scott Van Camp of Access Intelligence popped me 35 identical emails to all of my various and sundry email addresses just moment ago to let me know that PR News is doing another PR and Communications Salary Survey.

prnewslogo Take PR News' 2nd Annual Salary SurveyThese surveys make us PR agency owners nervous but what the heck — I am all about transparency!  So, be sure to take the survey before March 12 because the more and better data the have the more accurate and useful the results.

PR News today launched its second annual Salary Survey, which will gather data about the state of salaries, benefits and job satisfaction of PR professionals. The Salary Survey is open to communicators with all job titles in agency, corporate, nonprofit and government settings.

“Our most recent Salary Survey helped shed light on many key questions PR professionals have about jobs, salaries and benefits,” says Diane Schwartz, senior VP and publisher of PR News. “With this current study we’ll be able to do comparisons with the prior results that will uncover important employment trends that communicators will need to know.”

Specifically, such key topics as salary increase/decrease trends, bonuses and soft benefits like maternity leave, flex schedules and telecommuting are covered in the study. In addition, survey data are sliced by age, gender, job titles and geographical regions. Findings in the first Salary Survey were illuminating. For example, 30% of PR pros did not receive a salary increase in 2010, while 50% did not have a bonus plan at their organization.

The deadline for taking the PR News Salary Survey is Monday, March 12. Those who participate in the survey will receive a complimentary copy of the PR News Special Report: “SEO/SEM & Writing for the Web.”

The PR News family of products also includes the weekly PR News publication, the Digital PR Summit, the PR Measurement Conference, the Facebook Conference, PR Webinars and Workshops, PR Guidebooks, Platinum PR Awards, PR People Awards, CSR Awards, Nonprofit PR Awards, 15-to-Watch and more.
