Foursquare has tried this before. At first, Foursquare attempted an “Add to Foursquare” button that web publishers could use for consumers to save venues on their to-do list. The drawback? publishers had a difficult time embedding the button. The service was put on the back burner but now Foursquare is back with a vengeance. “Save to Foursquare” will sweep the nation this November.
There are many similarities with the first button. In fact, unless you’re a publisher, you probably wouldn’t know the difference. Publishers will realize implementation is much easier, only needing to add one line of code to the content management system in order to digitize the entire process.
General manager Even Cohen believes it’s a no brainer. “You can take the content on the Web and put it into a user’s pocket,” he told Ryan Kim of Gigacom. I think it’s going to be a big splash with retailers everywhere. Foursquare has been a hit with the younger crowd, especially capitalizing on a competition-like aspect, but it’s about time these retailers used it to their own benefit. Let’s see more daily deals, let’s see growing revenues– I’m excited to see what Foursquare comes up with next.
