Spring may be a little tentative in unleashing the sunshine on us this year, but it’s never too early to streamline your social media strategies and platforms. Here are 10 warm weather to-dos to maximize your audience and appeal:
1) Balance promotional content with conversational content. Engage your audiences so that they’re not only educated, they’re entertained.
2) Utilize transparency so that your followers can see the negative feedback but also the speed at which you respond to it. There’s nothing worse than whitewashing wall posts on Facebook and deleting negative comments.
3) Create a social media protocol. Draft PR friendly responses ahead of time so you know how to respond to different demographics.
4) Plan ahead. It’s important to think on your feet, but not always possible. Brainstorm topics, and tactics and have content ready– especially for blogs.
5) Shorten and simplify. Sites like trunk.ly and j.mp not only shorten URLS but they can also track number of clicks and link to multiple platforms.
6) Cadmus is a rare twitter gem. If you miss a day or two of tweets, it will help you track the most important content that you want to catch up on.
7) Streamline your facebook homepage. Friends with too many Chatty Cathys? Next to their statuses there’s an option to remove them from your mini feed. Untag yourself from unecessary or unprofessional pictures and delete contacts that you’re unfamiliar with.
8) Take advantage of the multitude of filters and additions in Gmail. Luckily there’s an abundance of storage but star emails that need expedited response and get rid of emails with large attachments.
9) Not a Foursquare fan? Remove tracking devices from your phone.
10) Write an effective and TRUE twitter bio and upload an up-to-date picture. People are far less likely to follow you without an indication of your occupation or interests.
