Twitter has grown in population along with the social media boom. A lot of people are engaged in doing activities on Twitter, for business, work, or personal stuff. A lot of people tweet every moment and every thing they do, but there are tons of people that are just lurking around and looking for stuff, reading news or keeping up with the current trends.
According to Jay Yarrow in his “CHART OF THE DAY: How People REALLY Use Twitter” :
The Pew Research Center released a big study focused entirely on Twitter. According to its findings, 8% of American adults that are online are now using Twitter. Below is a breakdown from Pew about how those people are actually using Twitter.
As shown on the chart above, people are lurking on twitter, just because MOST people are NOT DOING ANYTHING doesn’t change the fact that between 1/100-1/1000 or more people are actually engaging and that 1000:1 are just tracking news, seeing what their fave celeb is doing, or keeping up with headlines!
Lurkers on twitter cannot be ignored by people with the purpose of spreading something, not only because they are large in number but because these may be people that look for substance in things and they just don’t want to talk and talk, but maybe they do love to listen.
