New Intern on Board

Hello! My name is Esther Roman, and I am starting here in the team of Abraham Harrison. I am a native from Spain, currently living in Berlin, and participating in the internship program offered by this company. I graduated last year in Translation and Interpreting by the University of Salamanca (Spain), but I have always been interested in PR, and I have taken all the opportunities I have been offered to learn more about this topic. I got to know Abraham Harrison by pure chance: when I arrived to Berlin, I took German lessons at the Goethe-Institut, and I was lucky to be in the same class with Chris Abraham. He called my attention immediately: thanks to his wit and charm, he stands out in any environment. When I saw on his Facebook that Abraham Harrison was looking for interns, I did not have any doubts: I wanted to work on his team.

As a native speaker of Spanish, my tasks are currently focused on Latin America and Hispanics living in the US. This field, which has been completely foreign to me until very recently, has turned out to offer a world of possibilities: Hispanic social media is booming, and this can be observed by the booming increase in the usage of blogs, twitter and other media.

One of the signals of the expansion of the Hispanic in social media is the way they are breaking boundaries. While, until very recently, this market was relatively closed and controlled by idiosyncratic networks, like Hi5 or Orkut, Hispanics now (specially the ones who live in the US) are using Facebook and Twitter more and more.

Hispanics are finally finding their voice in the Internet, and this is becoming more and more evident. Every day, more Internet companies are offering their services in Spanish as well as in English. We are living in a time of change, that offers possibilities for all of us. From here, I want to thank the rest of the team for this opportunity to participate in this project.

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Esther Román, y estoy comenzando en el equipo de Abraham Harrison LLC. Nativa de España, estoy ahora viviendo en Berlín y participando en el programa de prácticas. Me licencié en Traducción e Interpretación por la Universidad de Salamanca (España), pero siempre me ha interesado el mundo de las Relaciones Públicas, y siempre que he podido he aprovechado para aprender lo más posible. Para mí, mis tareas aquí son una oportunidad de aprender y satisfacer una curiosidad que siempre ha estado en mí.

Llegué a conocer Abraham Harrison por casualidad: cuando llegué a Berlin, tuve la suerte de coincidir con Chris Abraham en las clases ofrecidas por el Goethe-Institut, y fue una persona que me llamó de inmediato la atención. Gracias a su ingenio y simpatía, Chris es capaz de destacar en cualquier ambiente. Y, cuando vi su oferta de trabajo, no lo pensé dos veces: quería trabajar con su equipo.

Como hispanohablante nativa, me encargo sobre todo tareas relacionadas con América Latina y con hispanos que residen en los EEUU. Este campo, que era hasta hace poco del todo desconocido para mí, ha resultado ofrecer posibilidades fascinantes: los medios sociales hispanos están viviendo un tremendo proceso de expansión, y esto se ve por el enorme crecimiento en el uso de blogs, twitter, etc.

Uno de los indicios de la expansión que están viviendo los social media hispanos es ver cómo están traspasando fronteras: mientras que, hasta hace muy poco, se veía la predominancia de Hi5 y de otras redes sociales idiosincráticas, los hispanos (sobre todo en los EEUU) han entrado con fuerza en Facebook, Twitter, y otros medios tradicionalmente anglosajones.

Los hispanos están encontrando su voz en Internet, y esto es cada vez más evidente: cada vez más servicios (periódicos, agencias de noticias, redes sociales) están ofreciendo posibilidades orientadas a este mercado. Estamos viviendo un momento de cambio, que ofrece nuevas y excitantes posibilidades para todos, y, desde aquí, quiero agradecer al resto del equipo esta oportunidad que se me ofrece.
