Brenda - great article. I think you're on to something here. The gap between the haves and have nots in our country continues to broaden...and political discussions abound on how to correct it...but the human issue goes broadly unaddressed. Keep writing, thanks for sharing.

You bring an interesting human nature perspective to the recession. Well written, looking forward to reading more articles.

One of the more interesting issues that has come to my attention is that many of our business contacts, or friends for that matter, seem to know little about their acquaintances and have them pigeonholed into a specific skill set based on their point of reference. Many of the unemployed have significantly higher skill sets than may be generally known. The even bigger issue here is that Resumes very seldom reflect the expanded skill sets.

Very well written article Brenda. The recession and downsizing have had a ripple effect in many ways. I myself have noticed three or more "For Sale" signs in any given block within the radius of my home in Salt Lake City, Utah. Within less than six months these signs are replaced by "For Rent" signs instead because people can no longer afford the mortgage and do not want to go into foreclosure. I personally have a friend who is renting her house in Arizona right now and living with her grown daughter in Washington state because she can no longer afford the mortgage and doesn't want to lose her home that she has been paying on for the last fifteen years. She recently lost her job due to down sizing in her company and she is 58 years old and cannot find another job. There is really little I can do for her myself financially, but I do listen and give her encouragement and ideas when they come to me. The important point here in my comment and in your article is to remember that you are a true friend and hope that comes thru when you are with your troubled friend. I will always stand by a friend no matter the circumstances of the moment.
