The New Intern’s Here!

Hi, Everyone! My name is Lowell Dempsey.  I’m the newest intern here at Abraham Harrison, LLC and I could not be more excited to be on board.

I just entered my senior year at the University of Maryland-College Park (Go Terps!).  I am majoring in Communication with a focus in Public Relations. (Just like Abraham Harrison’s first intern Liza Peiffer)

I am a Maryland native. Born and raised in the city of Capitol Heights.  It’s a relatively small town with a fairly convenient location: roughly 30 minutes from Washington, DC and another 30 minutes from my school.  (Depending on Beltway-traffic, which on a bad day or during rush hour can add an extra 30 minutes – 1 hour to your commute. The traffic can be awful sometimes. But I digress. )

Technology, electronics, and typically things that are suppose to make life easier, but instead cause even more complication and confusion (ie: cell phones, universal remotes, non-apple products, etc.) have always interested me.  My fascination loomed not so much in how these things worked, but more so in how I could use them to my benefit.

Sure enough, the world of Social Media falls into the same category.  Twitter, Facebook, AIM, and any other device or application that can be used for leisurely activity and business networking simultaneously has my attention.  I’ve been using Twitter for a while now (@ldempsey45); not quite as much as Chris Abraham (@Chrisabraham) (I’d have to tweet all day, everyday for the next 2 years to catch up to him) but I have been able to make a number of connections to build a decent network of contacts for this stage of my life.

Besides my love for technology, I am also a huge sports fan.  I’m pretty much a hometown team kind of guy.  Terps, Wizards, (If I watched Hockey) Capitals, and The Washington Redskins.  (I know there are few Eagles fans, maybe some Giants fans, and a few (hopefully, not many) Cowboys fans on the AH team. All I have to say is “Please do not hold my team-affiliation against me.” )

As far as career goals, I am steadily striving to make my way into the public relations field.  I would love to stay local (Washington DC/Maryland area) and establish myself with any PR firm – preferably one dealing in media or technology.

Overall, I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to be working with this staff.  I am looking forward to all that this experience has to offer and all that I will be able to take away from it.
