James and Larissa Grunig lecture at UMD, Oct. 1

bannerDr. James Grunig and Dr. Larissa Grunig are professors emeritus at the University  of Maryland and will be giving a lecture on Thursday, October 1.  The Grunigs together, along with David M. Dozier, also won the National Communication Association PRIDE Award for their book, Excellent Public Relations and Effective Organizations.

James E. Grunig is a public relations theorist and is one of the pioneers of the field. He has written over 250 books, articles and reports and coauthored Managing Public Relations, Public Relations Techniques, Manager’s Guide to Excellence in Public Relations and Communication Management, and Excellent Public Relations and Effective Organizations: A Study of Communication Management in Three Countries.

James was the first winner of the Pathfinder Award for excellence in academic research on public relations by the Institute for Public Relations Research and Education in 1984.  He received the Outstanding Educator Award of the Public Relations Society of America, and in 1992, the PRSA Foundation awarded him the Jackson, Jackson & Wagner award for outstanding behavioral science research.  In 2000 he won the most prestigious lifetime award of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) the Paul J. Deutschmann Award for Excellence in Research.

His wife, Larissa, was the Magistral speaker at the II International Congress on Public Relations in Lima, Peru in June 2008 and was a featured speaker at the 14th International Public Relations Research Symposium in Bled, Slovenia the following month.
