Twitter is receiving so much free media coverage that it would be a shame to let it go to waste–free media coverage to be exact. According to a TechCrunch article,
“If Twitter needed to pay for the media coverage the company and its free service get across the board, it would have spent almost as much in 30 days as the $55 million that has been invested in the company since its inception in 2006.”
That’s a lot of exposure. You’ve all probably seen some variation of a ’celebrity tweet’ segment on TV shows such as the Tonight Show with Conan and E! News, making the site officially mainstream. The media intelligence company VMS says television contributed to 57% of the PR value, newspapers 37% and magazines 5%. What does this all mean for the public? Well, it’s telling you to get on the ride before it’s over (which probably won’t be soon, but still..) and take advantage of the media doing the work for you. If you own a company, chances are more and more of your consumers are hearing about Twitter daily. So if you’re debating whether or when to make a company Twitter accoung, I say now is the perfect time to do it.
