Online video advertising will increase, but how?

The Association of National Advertisers and Forrester Reseearch are pointing out the 62% of marketers now believe that TV advertising has become less effective over the past two years.  That’s an amazing number.  Hopefully it will serve as a clarion call to those same marketers and to the ad agencies that serve them  Sometimes I think that many marketers see the changes that are happening but choose to not adapt because they assume no one else will.  But when statistics showing more than 60% of marketers showing doubt on th most well known medium for advertising, it means that they can’t delay changes in methods and mediums.

This is a major reason why the same survey had 87% of marketers planning to spend more on web advertising this year.  Or that eMarketer is saying that ad spend should reach $28.5 billion, up 23% over last year.  That includes an 74% increase in spending on online video.

The odd thing is that the models for online video advertising are not even close to being set.  Pre-roll is a mess.  Net shows aren’t necessarily a huge success.  And we keep on hearing that people are looking to interact with their friends on social networks and not with brands.

Walking to Berlin Sony Center

I walk or bike everywhere, even though I have a monthly pass on public transport: city bus, S-Bahn, and U-Bahn. I am getting to know the city and I am trying to get some exercise. Of course, it was a pretty day with sun, blue sky, and sporadic snow. So, I was on the way to catch a film, Dan In Real Life, at the CineStar which lives under what looks like the tent at the lower left of the above photo. Couple abound. Also, what a cool building under construction to the right. Is it a yellow skeleton is a version of the Centre Pompidou?

I never got the name of this movie theater but it was down an alley and up some stairs and through this door. And, it offered current, first run, movies. Films as new as “Be Kind, Rewind.” We didn’t stay here, but who would have guessed? Also, there are ample films that are screened “original” and are in English as well as films in German or native language with English subtitles. How International! I love Berlin. The word for movie or film is German is Kino.

I have been seeing a lot of movies at the CineStar Kino at the Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz. Whenever I walk home from the film home, I see the imposing and futuristic entrance to the Potsdamer Platz U-Bahn station. It reminds me of Jean-Luc Godard‘s Alphaville.

This is the futuristic and imposing metro station of the Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz that I walk by all the time, as my camera sees it, without any funny business.
