While YouTube specializes mostly in amateur video clips, Veoh.com showcases both homemade clips and full-length TV shows. CBS has many of its prime-time shows on Veoh, as do NBC and Fox, via their Hulu joint venture. Next month, Viacom’s cable networks, which include MTV and Comedy Central, will join the stable. A key selling point for Veoh is a download feature that lets you save shows and watch them later. If you connect your computer to a TV, Veoh TV can act as a Tivo-like guide. Another selling point is that it showcases videos in higher resolution than competing sites such as YouTube. The service uses peer-to-peer technology, tapping into its users’ computers to broadcast higher quality video. It’s not high-definition, but it’s a start!! It has been recorded that the average consumer watches about five minutes of Internet video a day. That number is projected to jump to 45 minutes a day by 2011. As of 2008, it seems like Veoh is making a strong stand as the leader in the internet television market.
