If You’re 16 You’re Old Enough to Protect Your Own Online Reputation

I am a believer in absolutely personal responsibility. Stupid is as stupid does, said Forrest’s mom.  However, children are different.

“Social networking sites like Facebook have wooed millions of users with their easy format for keeping in touch but left them navigating the pitfalls of interacting online is it really private?” Via DAWN Group

Where does the responsibility lie: state, federal, parents, children, or with Facebook itself? Or, is it shared? What should it look like? I think if you’re 16, you should know well enough to not make an ass of yourself unless you’re willing to live with the blow-back.

I refuse to support the coddling of “kids” who are not really kids, they’re bloody well able to drive! These are young adults! When will be stop coddling them?

When I was 16, I could drive. I had a car. I had already had sex. Heck, there are loads of 16-year-olds who go away to college at 16. When I was 16, I was getting pretty close to being a man. In fact, I would only use the, “hey man, I am 16, I am just a kid,” if it would let me get away with some crazy shit.

If you’re old enough to drive, you’re old enough to have a little bit of a responsibility. We really need to stop coddling people who are actually driving.

If you are responsible enough to pilot something that could kill, you should already be responsible enough not to show your breasts or do something really stupid.

After the personal responsibility of the user is considered (16 or older, adult — in fact, 16 is the age of consent in some states — but if you really must be a stickler, then 18 — but 18+ is old enough to die for your country, it should surely be old enough to be responsible for doing a sex video or some dumbass stuff like that, surely) then you should really blame the parents.

After the parents, the company, after the company, the state and local. The very last thing should be federal legislation.

Come on, people.
