I know and love this quote but it wasn’t until I had a chat with the gang over at RSSBus did I know that it came from Bob Metcalfe, Inventor of the Ethernet, and it is called Metcalfe’s Law:
“The power of the network increases exponentially by the number of computers connected to it. Therefore, every computer added to the network both uses it as a resource while adding resources in a spiral of increasing value and choice.”
The same may be said about personal and social networks as well. Some people try desperately to keep their “friends and family” grouping small and intimate; however, I find that there will always be more value in much larger networks. Of course, I am a mad connector.
