Via email and on the Hugg site,
“And surprise! We’ve changed Hugg. In response to some pressing technical issues, the Hugg 2.0 roll-out is happening a bit sooner than we’d initially scheduled it, so let us know if you’re seeing any teething trouble. Over the next few hours, the existing user accounts will be imported into the system, and if you already have a Hugg account, you should be receiving email about the change. If you no longer have the email address you used to register, let us know.”
And, the purchase of Treehugger.com by Discovery straight from the horse’s mouth,
“We are excited to announce that Discovery Communications, LLC, through its subsidiary, has acquired TreeHugger.com and Hugg.com. The deal brings us resources, and will help us better fulfill our mission. Discovery has recently dedicated itself to creating a new channel and website, Planet Green, as the top green resource for millions. This acquisition merges our rich mix of news, blogs and advice with Discovery’s efforts to develop original programming about the environment, sustainable development, conservation and organic living.
Discovery, through its subsidiary, will be continuing the newsletter and forum services for TreeHugger.com and Hugg.com. TreeHugger.com and Hugg.com will be governed by Discovery’s Privacy Policy and Visitor Agreement. When you sign in next, you’ll be asked to accept these policies.”

I hope I’m not being overly critical, but it seems to me that environmental and nature organizations that sell themselves based on a web 2.0 look sacrifice too much. First, you sacrifice the beauty of natural design. Second, you sacrifice your branding. You aren’t a web 2.0 organization…you are an environmental organization. Or at least a media organization interested in covering the environment.
I think the look is anything but natural–especially given the color scheme. The green they picked it both too light and too brown. So, a more appealing shade of green would have been nice. For instance eithe of the 2 greens you have on your page are great!
At the end of the day its about functionality. Just my humble opinion.
I was hacking around in Hugg and Hugg is pretty much just an off-the-shelf installation of Drupal with a little bit of skinning and some template work. So, lots of this look and feel can change, if they were able to get a truly great CSS goddess.
